From the TagBoard:
poor: well done ! i really admire your work esp the oct incident. please do more. esp the stupid OC is nuts.
SPCS: The OC is probably just another publicity stint to promote MJC. What's the point? It's just another 'wayang'...
dee: which sch does not want to promote themselves? anyway, the oc is impt to ANY sch. what's wrong with taking the extra effort and pride in it? look at the other schs with their carnivals and shit. isn't that an even bigger publicity stunt? we as meridians should support our sch on this instead of reading too much between the lines.
SPCS [dee]: Correction: Carnivals are primarily fund-raising activities, not publicity stints.
xen: haha, our skl is only abt 2 yrs old, so it shouldnt look as 'run down' as tjc ma. i dont believe there is a skl out there which wouldnt make the place as presentable as possible for thier own OC so dun take it out so hard on the school la
xuan: shutup already, the oc was definitely necessary while THIS blog ISNT at all. n as if the opening cem is wasting any of YOUR time. even if it was, it was u ppl's choice to not back out or whatever.
SPCS [xuan]: We could choose to back out of the OC, and you could choose not to visit this site too, you know?
rui: sometimes, it is often through publicity that makes a school succeed in future, say 10 years down the road. look at rj or other schools. din they publicise themselves as much as we do? or even more.? new school campus, everywhere is up on news: tv, newspapers, bla. get what i mean? and to xuan, i hope constructive comments can be put here and not "shut up already" or smth like this. =) and to spcs, i agree with the rest that it is neccessary to do up the sch nicely for opening ceremony. its like u going to town. wont u dress up properly? however, i personally think that OC should involve as much students as possible: letting students enjoy. the majority of audience should be students, and not some impt guests. bla. choosing like 2 out of every class is simply pathetic. its after all, a school event. =)
SPCS [rui]: The reason why important guests are invited is for publicity. It's not a school event to begin with. And whether we dress up when we go out, that's a false analogy. Also, do you realise that publicity is not the basis of the success of RJC? When they shifted to their new campus, they don't go around creating publicity. The press wants to cover the event because it's RJC, a successful college. Publicity comes with success, nobodies don't go around seeking publicity. You probably won't see MJC's OC in the papers, because we're STILL nobodies...

Conclusion: The OC should be an event where all students just gather in college and celebrate our official opening, instead of some publicity event. That would be much more meaningful than Love Meridian Day.

The Meridian Junior College Opening Ceremony will be held tomorrow, more than two years after it's first intake of students.
In view of the OC, the buildings in the whole college was repainted, the hall's air-conditioning installed just weeks before, the hall's flooring re-polished and no shoes allowed in the hall. Students who were to be in the audience had to go for a "Cheering session". There were even rumours that the Principal's new car, a BMW 5-series, was bought so that she looked more presentable for the OC.
Why, everything is just so superficial. A good college, no matter how run down, will still attract students. A good example is Temasek Junior College - old building, but still a popular JC.
The OC is just another of MJC's publicity stints, taking up students' time and effort for rehearsals. Is it really necessary? Opening Ceremony? After more than two years in operation?

From the TagBoard:
yan: j1 here. just wanna say that aircon in e hall aint gonna be e determining factor to keep us in mj. so j2s who's still on bout e aircon used by j1s, e sch nor j1s aint as dumb as u.
haomster: to yan: we'll see who's dumb after you decide to stay in MJC
anonymous: yan... if ur results is damn good u will not end up in mjc... the j2s will not deny tt our results r not gd.. let's see how well u will do for ur 'O's!
Jinx: lay off the J1s. don't bully em. MJ isn't as bad as u think, its simply how u choose to perceive it. i got personally blasted by her n i'm still living.
austin powers: vday is suppose to be a very nice day to many of us.. but the sch.. make it till like a money making period. i'm so sick of it! we jus haf to stand at the assembly plaza and listen to all the 'advertisments'. my god. not a good way to start a day yeah? hey yan. dun be too xia lan first. we are at least a yr older than u. when we are learning xyz, u r starting to suck pacifier. so dun call us dumb. btw yan we hope dun yap to the j2, prove how good u are show us ur results. ur yapping just make j2s *yawn*. anyway, yan we dun need another dog like u that moan in our yard. we got enough of guard dogs. 1 gd example is the OM. =)
Jinx: lay off the J1. age is not a determining factor for maturity.
Silver_blaise: evidently not. but then again, dont say silly things like that and expect not to get slammed aiite ickle firstie? altho it was also nt necesary to blast him/her the way it WAS done. yes i quite agree though. the morning announcements are a right pain i the you-know -what. thank god its over. and having the school vision plastered on the side of the building is not half as inspiring as slightly nauseating. nice logo though. anyone else think so? OTHER than the fact tt it kind of resembles a dolphin. and yes. its totally unfair that we cannot wear any other shirt for PE. wth la. i seriously suggest we try talking to the PE dept.

Look, "yan". We've been through JC1, you haven't. We've seen the changes in MJC from PAE to JAE, you haven't. The JC2 are giving you advice, letting you know what MJC is like after JAE, so that you could make a more informed choice when it is your turn, and hopefully you won't regret your choice. But instead, you called us dumb, showed your xia lan cockiness. You might as well teach your parents how to make babies and raise children. If you don't want to heed the advice of so many JC2s who've been there and done that, fine. Don't call us dumb. If you were so smart in the first place, you wouldn't be in MJC. You should show your seniors the basic respect they deserve.

To "Jinx":
No point protecting the juniors from the harsh reality. They'll be exposed to it eventually. We should warn them of what they should expect so that they won't receive the full impact that we received.

Juniors, we just hope you don't regret your choice, whatever it may be.

Just some feedback from the TagBoard:
anonymous: y aren't the J2s using the hall for the CNY concert? we were the one hu raise the $$ for the air-con while the J1 juz enjoy the air-con... stupid sch!
dee: could i say something about how everyone in our sch is so busy banking in on v.day that they are neglecting the feelings of the singles out there? it's horrid during assembly nowadays
j2 student: hmmm... juz wana say tt my current count of mjc t-sht is 11, excluding 3 mjc polo shts... and there's more to come considering the new cca shts this year too... =S

Regarding the CNY concert and the air-con, the college is probably trying to persuade the JC1s to stay with MJC after PAE. They have to impress the JC1s more than they have to appease the JC2s, right?
Morning assemblies, they're getting annoyingly long with all those announcements from the various CCAs trying to make some money out of Valentine's Day. They are being totally insensitive to those who are still single or worse, out of love. Besides, didn't Ms Esther Lai say that JC is not the time to get into relationships? (remember her infamous "I see arrows flying" speech last year?) Why are there teachers encouraging these "entrepreneurs" to promote Valentine's Day?
Lastly, one can easily have more than four different types of MJC shirts - PE, House, CCA, Orientation, SYF. But how many can we wear? Only one - PE. House, Orientation and SYF shirts probably have no chance to be worn at all. Does it seem reasonable at all?

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR, Meridians!!!

It's the time to visit relatives and friends, eat CNY goodies, play blackjack, and most importantly, COLLECT RED PACKETS! Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Anyway, ever noticed how MJC's Chinese New Year celebrations always end up as Racial Harmony Day celebrations?

Austin Powers: i think the sch vision looks weird on the building - the computer lab block.

Well, guess what? That's our exact sentiments. Comments, anyone?
